I’m so excited to present the Scrappy Mandala Crochet Scarf! This scarf has so many features to love wrapped up in a single design! There’s loads of color, texture, and a fun stitch pattern that works up quickly and easily on repeat.
And as we crocheters well know, anything that can be made on repeat is a fun project to make while watching a movie or sitting on the sidelines and cheering on our favorite player at a sporting event.
The Scrappy Mandala Scarf does require a bit of prep work, in the beginning, to get your yarn ready for making the stripes, but you’ll be ready to go in no time. I’ll walk you through everything you need to know and give you all my tips and tricks to make this project a success!

The Yarn
While designing this project I decided that it would be beautiful to have a lot of color on a neutral background. I knew right away that utilizing Mandala yarn was the answer. It always has the perfect color combination in one single yarn cake!
In my area, my local Walmart has the best selection for Mandala yarn so this is where I purchased my yarn for the project.
While this scarf can definitely be made with a worsted weight yarn for both the background and the colored, striped design portions of the scarf I like how the lighter weight yarn adds a more delicate touch to the design.

Let’s Make the Scrappy Mandala Scarf!
A Bit of Yarn Prep
Before jumping right into crocheting the Scrappy Mandala Scarf a bit of prep work is needed.
The background color (Color A) remains the same throughout, but the stripes (Color B) are another story. This is where the fun comes in!
To prep for making the striped colors take the Mandala yarn and separate each of the colors from the cake into its own ball.
It’s now time to decide what color(s) to make the stripes! The color options will vary depending on the Mandala cake being used. Have fun with this!
When balled up some of the colors may be very close to the same. To help keep them separate (and decrease the amount of confusion) it helps to number several plastic sandwich baggies (one for each of the colors you plan to use) with a sharpie and put each yarn ball in its own bag.
Let’s Talk About Stripes!
The scarf has 16 stripes of color. Color arrangement and spacing can vary however desired. Use the same color only once or multiple times. Don’t like one of the colors? Omit it!
Oh, the possibilities! This is one thing that makes the Scrappy Mandala Scarf so much fun!
When working the pattern, the colored stripes will be noted as Color (B1), (B2), (B3), etc. To keep everything straight, write down the bag number that coordinates with the color to be used for each stripe. (If you grabbed the ad-free PDF on Ravelry or Etsy I’ve included a printout in the PDF to write down your choices. Thanks for your support!)
For example:
- Stripe B1: bag #4
- Stripe B2: bag #2
- Stripe B3: bag #5
- Stripe B4: bag #7
- Stripe B5: bag #14
- Stripe B6: bag#12
- Stripe B7: bag #6
- Stripe B8:bag #1
- Stripe B9: bag #4
- Stripe B10: bag #2
- Stripe B11: bag #10
- Stripe B12: bag #8
- Stripe B13: bag #11
- Stripe B14: bag #13
- Stripe B15: bag #9
- Stripe B16: bag #1

The Scrappy Mandala Scarf is as beautiful on the back as it is on the front!
Tassels
The tassels on the scarf are made with 4 inch /10 cm long strands of yarn. The strands can be made longer or shorter based on personal preference. Holding four of the strands together, loop the strands onto the scarf in every other space along the bottom edges. Note: Start at both ends and work towards the middle because the way the pattern repeats the middle portion will need to be fudged a little (there will be one extra space between the tassels). The extra space won’t show in the middle but will be more noticeable on the end.
