Large Crochet Carrots anyone?!! If you’ve been around for a while you may begin to think that I’m a little obsessed with carrots. I mean, on the blog you can find small Cottage Garden Crochet Carrots, regular-sized Crochet Cuisine Carrots, and now Large Crochet Carrots that can be made in four different sizes!
And while I must admit that carrots are definitely a favorite veggie of mine, these huge carrots were just asking to be made! Their massive size makes them perfect for Easter or spring decor and they can be made as a group or do just fine standing individually on a shelf, tabletop, or centerpiece.
I think this will be the last carrot pattern I make for the blog (maybe I shouldn’t make promises, lol), but don’t be surprised if other patterns for veggies in all sorts of sizes show up on the blog over time.
In fact, there are already some smaller tomatoes and cabbages if you’re interested!

The Inspiration
There is just something about spring and seeing all the green that pops up from the ground and having blossoms start to bud on the trees that gets my heart just racing to plant flowers and garden veggies. We’ve definitely been guilty of planting things too early around here and having the frost come through and kill them. Oh, how I would love to have a greenhouse to be able to get things growing early, but that’s another story. Crocheting my veggies is perhaps a good solution for my urge to have garden veggies early and waiting till the threat of frost passes to be able to plant the real thing.
Huge carrots will have such a fun and inviting impact too when decorating, don’t you think? I picture shelves and tables with carrots along with cute duck and bunny figurines, eggs, brightly colored flowers, and signs that read things like “Hello Spring,” “Bloom Where You’re Planted,” “Happy Easter,” “Plant Kindness,” and other fun phrases. In all honesty, I spend more time creating pieces and dreaming about decorating than actually doing it, but I’m okay with this too.
I was also inspired to make the Large Crochet Carrots because I was working on the Weighted Crochet Snuggle Bunny pattern and I thought how fun it would be to have a large carrot to use in the pictures for the bunny. Can you see how my brain works and why I never seem to run out of crochet pattern ideas?!! Easter, spring, bunnies, it all goes together in my brain, and thus we now have another bunny pattern and four Large Crochet Carrots to add to the other bunny and carrot patterns (Here and Here) on the blog because I also love options.
Whether you are using the bunnies and carrots for Easter decor, Spring decor, nursery decor, or more I hope that you love them and find that they bring an extra amount of joy to you and those you share them with! Happy Crocheting!
The Yarn
The yarn used for the Large Crochet Carrots is an acrylic, worsted, size 4, Red Heart Super Saver yarn that I pulled from my stash, in the colors Carrot (so fitting, right?!) and Guava. I think they make such a great color pairing!
This said, partway through my project with only about two carrot top branches left to make for my last carrot, I ran out of all the Guava yarn that I had in my stash. I went to buy more and found it impossible to find locally. I don’t know if it’s just 2020-2021 Covid related that the yarns in store seem to be less available locally, but they are, at least those I’ve been wanting, lol. It’s quite sad to see such bare shelves at times.
Like I said, Covid related, I don’t know? I was unable to find anywhere where it says that the color Guava is discontinued, and I was able to find it online (through Amazon and Walmart), so although marked up from what I would typically pay for it, I did find more and was thankfully able to complete the design in its original color combination.
So, that said, just make sure to check your stash and stores and if Guava isn’t available, other brighter green options in the Red Heart Super Saver Yarns that I would recommend are Spring Green and Tea Leaf. For a more medium/dark option, I think that Paddy Green would be pretty too. Really just go with what you love most and have available to you. As it always goes, I’m all about not letting color options hold me back. In fact, now that I’ve made them in orange I want to also make them in all the other rainbow carrot colors too!
Substitutions. Really any brand of worsted weight, acrylic yarn should work well for making the Large Crochet Carrots. I have not personally tried it, but working them up in a lighter or heavier weight yarn should work just as well with adjustments made for hook size according to the yarn weight. Using a cotton instead of an acrylic yarn should work just fine too.

Design Notes
- The patterns are written using US crochet terminology.
- The carrot patterns are written in continuous rounds. It will be helpful to place a stitch marker at the beginning stitch of the round and move it up at the start of each additional round. The carrot top greenery is not worked in rounds.
- At the end of each round, the number of stitches for completion is noted in parentheses.
- Carrots in the pattern were designed using the yarn under method, the yarn over method can also be used and will potentially create a slightly larger carrot.
- Further design notes are provided throughout the pattern to help aid in construction.
Abbreviations/Stitches Used
- back bar of the ch
- ch – Chain
- Rnd(s) – Round(s)
- sc – Single crochet
- sc2tog – Single crochet 2 stitches together (invisible decrease)
- sl st – Slip stitch
- st(s) – Stitch(s)

Carrot Top Greenery
Some things to note:
- There are four versions of the carrot top greenery.
- Version 1 and 2 are similar to each other, with Version 2 being slightly larger. They are both a bit more advanced to make.
- Version 3 and Version 4 are similar to each other, with version 4 being slightly larger. They are both a simpler option to make.
- All versions of the Carrot Top Greenery use a single strand of Color (B) and hook size E/4 (3.5 mm).
- Make as many branches as wanted for the preferred version to achieve the desired fullness for the carrot top. The carrots pictured each have five branches.
- >Design Note: In the images, Version 1 of the Carrot Top is used on Carrot #1 holding one strand of Color (A). Version 2 of the Carrot Tops is used on both Carrot #1 and #2 where two strands of Color (A) are held together. Version 3 is shown on Carrot #2, holding one strand of Color (A). Version 4 is not shown on a carrot but was designed for the largest carrots made by holding two strands of Color (A) together. All versions can be mixed and matched as desired.
Version 1: Shorter Intricate Branch With Seven Leaves Off the Main Stem
Using Color (B) and hook size E/4 (3.5 mm)
- Ch 31 (Main Chain)
>Design Note: In the next part of the directions there are a couple of places where it is noted to add stitch markers. This is merely to help with understanding where to place stitches in the pattern. There is no need to add the stitch markers once the pattern repeat is learned and these stitches are easily identified.
Work in the back bar of the chains unless otherwise noted:
- Stem: Sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook and in the next 14 ch,

Thanks! I’m glad that you like them. I couldn’t decide which type of leafy top I liked more when designing them, so why not include both, right?!! Options are fun. I hope that you have a great day!
