Are you ready to make your very own Crochet Bunny Egg?!! Perhaps maybe even two, or three, or more?!! Seriously, I know that they say that bunnies tend to multiply, but how is this the case even when a bunny is an inanimate object?
I may very well be wrong, but think that it’s the fact that they’re just so adorable, and making just one is more difficult than one might realize. Would you agree?

The Inspiration
I must say that the inspiration that I get for designing comes from a wide variety of places. Sometimes it’s me just daydreaming, playing with my kids, or going for a walk and seeing a color combination that I really like. Honestly, just being in the world brings inspiration.
Another thing that always brings inspiration, as I shared in the Crochet Easter Eggs post, is the pure fact that Easter is on its way. While I enjoy designing whatever I might randomly dream up in my head it’s also really fun to design for holidays.
As an avid lover of amigurumi, it really should also be no surprise that every item made would of course at some point also need to be turned into something with eyes and other facial features. And thus the Crochet Bunny Egg came to be.
And there may just possibly be some more on the way too (hint, hint). I just need to carve out the time to get them all written up, photographed, etc. As always, thanks for your support! I hope that you’ll love them as much as I’ve enjoyed designing them!

The Yarn
The Crochet Bunny Eggs were made using Yarnspirations Caron Simply Soft. It is a well-known and widely available yarn both online and in many craft stores, long loved by many crafters because of its softness, ease of care, and wide selection of colors.
It’s a worsted weight, size 4, acrylic yarn that comes in a wide range of colors and styles including the regular simply soft solids, collection, heathers, tweeds, ombres, brites, stripes, paints, speckles, camos, party, marled, and several more! Truly a wide variety to choose from for any project!
Really any and all of these options would be great for making the Easter Eggs.
Caron Simply Soft has a super soft feel with a bit of a sheen which I think makes it all the more perfect for Easter projects. A little sparkle and shine make any holiday a bit more festive don’t you think?
The biggest complaint that I hear about Caron Simply Soft yarn is that it can have a tendency to split.
Honestly, I must agree that this can be the case. When I first started using the yarn I had more trouble than I do now.
Once I learned how my hook and crochet style interacted with the yarn I rarely have this issue. In fact, when it comes to acrylic yarns it has become one of my go-to yarns over the years for making amigurumi.
In this design, I specifically chose to use a variety of neutrals that fit traditional bunny colors, but it would be really fun to make them in a rainbow of festive colors.
Substitutions. Any brand of worsted weight acrylic yarn should work well for making the Crochet Bunny Egg but note that due to variations among brands the finished size may vary slightly. Also note, if mixing yarn brands, that it’s important to ensure that the thickness of the yarns are the same to ensure consistency in stitching. If cotton yarn is preferred, this too should work fine.
The pattern has not been tested using other sizes of yarn but should work just fine if accommodation for hook size is also made according to the yarn size used.
As always, I’d love to see/hear about your experiences with making the design and the products you chose to use. Tag me on social media @jenhayescreations to share!

Design Notes
- The pattern is written in English using US crochet terminology.
- The pattern is written primarily in continuous rounds. It will be helpful to place a stitch marker at the beginning stitch of the round and move it up at the start of each additional round.
- At the end of each round/row, the number of stitches for completion is noted in parentheses.
- Further design notes and tips will be provided throughout the pattern to help aid in construction.
- Caution! If using safety eyes, take into consideration who will be using the item. The use of safety eyes is not recommended for children under the age of three or for those prone to putting things in their mouth as they may cause a choking hazard. Crocheted or hand embroidered eyes are a great alternative!

- Insert the safety eyes. Suggested placement is between Rnds 8 and 9 approximately 5sts apart. >Design Tip: Wait to add the backs to the eyes until the embroidery (done in the next step) is completed. This makes it easier to make adjustments and get behind the eyes with the embroidery floss if needed.
- Using embroidery floss and an embroidery needle. Add any desired embroidery such as the nose, mouth, whiskers, eyelashes, freckles, etc. >Design Tip: For thicker features use 6 strands of DMC floss (like when making the nose or french knot freckles) and use 3 strands for thinner features (like outlining the nose, making whiskers, eyelashes, eyebrows, etc).
- Remember to put the backs on the eyes once the embroidery is completed.
- Rnds 14-16: Sc in each st around. (30sts for 3 Rnds)
- Rnd 17: [Sc in the next 3sts, sc2tog] 6 times. (24sts)
